Games

 Johnson, S. (2011). "Games". 50 Essays. S Cohen. (Ed.),
  (pp.196-201). Boston: Bedford St. Martins.

The essay Games by Steven Johnson talks about children having less interest in books and more interest in games. He compares the two and believes that they are both good. He states that the children are wasting more time on games than books that can help with mental work to process and store information. But playing video games helps improve our visual skills.
I think that books have more of a good outcome because with video games it can turn out to be addicting. I notice with the boys in my family or even friends that they get very isolated when they are playing games. They can go on for days.

Classmates Blog: Procrastination

Link To Classmates Blog: http://timeanditsworth.blogspot.com/

"While procrastinating is easy to do, it's not easy to succeed with, nor is it very rewarding even if you can. Because it has become easier than ever with all of the social media that has become available to us, many are able to pass the hours without even thinking about it,". Tim's statement is true, we have all been there and it sure isn't fun when your rushing to finish a project or homework at the last minute. I myself have a very bad habit of leaving everything for that last minute, which isn't very smart for a student in the first year of college. Social media is part of the cause of distraction and procrastination. Its hard to focus on your work especially when receiving automatic notifications from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Social media is great, but it can easily distract a busy student from doing their work.  In order to succeed, we can't let social media distract us and prevent us from doing our work.

Television: The Plug-In Drug

Winn, M.(2011).Television the Plug-in Drug. In S. Cohen, 50 Essays (pg.438-447). Boston: Bedford St.Martins.

In “Television: The Plug-In Drug” by  Marie Winn, Winn talks about the negative outcome of television on the modern families today. She discusses the idea on how television should bring the family together in one room, but instead has separated families and stole what was once family bonding. Marie Winn has three arguments: The Quality of life, Family Rituals, and Real People all connecting with the impact from television. Winn goes on saying how television is a bad influence for young children, and parents don't pay much attention to what children are watching because it keeps them busy.  It has come to the point where there is more than one television in a household.

Television isnt the only distraction for children there are also smart phones and computers that connect with Facebook, Twitter, and other social media networks that can separate family members from each other. Today's society social media has become a part of your everyday life. It can even be an addiction for most individuals.

It seems like nowadays fashion doesn't need to only be in magazines but all over the internet advertising. There are companies who send products or clothing samples to fashion bloggers to advertise and review these samples, this leads to a bigger following crowd for that brand. This article is about how social media takes a big roll on fashion. Not only with big stores but with small clothing boutiques, social media can pull you out of obscurity in a matter of seconds. Social media is positively helping small fashion companies to expand and be competitive with several other fashion companies. With Facebook promotions, a company can get people to start talking about their store overnight. Companies have a big advantage with the power of social media because they are in touch with their costumers. It is easier now to listen to what the public has to say and fulfill customers wishes making them happy. Facebook and Twitter allow businesses to offer deals and run great promotions. Additionally, with just a "Like" or retweet by followers, they can attract more attention and make it easier for the business to expand.
