Social media in the political segment has played quite an interesting role in the most recent elections. According to the Washington Post article, Social Media Killing the Secret Ballot, the amount of times that names Obama and Mitt Romney have been repeated is a few million times. Social media has brought a different perspective of the Presidential candidates to the potential voters. People are now having more frequent political debates over social media web pages on the internet, such as discussion forums and Facebook. Since a good amount of the young potential American voters are on the internet, there is a perfect opportunity for any Presidential candidate to tap into this potential resource of votes. These votes are not concentrated in one region, they are spread throughout America.
